I have been a bit quiet on the Blogging front for a while. Partly because I hadn’t felt the love for writing but also because I didn’t want to bore everyone.
So I have had confirmation of the travel dates 08-18th April 2016.
Final cost has also been confirmed £3850 and all I can say is thank god it’s being sponsored by Herbert Smith Freehills. http://www.herbertsmithfreehills.com/locations/belfast
The other big thing was ordering pretty much all of my desert kit I’ll need. RJS Patterson, Wetroom, Bathroom and plumbing specialist http://www.rjspatterson.com/ kindly sponsored this.
I had real joy getting this lot and thanks to last years winner Elizabet Barnes who runs http://www.myracekit.com/ helping me choose what would best suit my 5ft 5 1/2″ frame!
The big thing is my race pack that I’ll live out of and run with for 7 days in the sweaty sandy climate of the Sahara. Next are the trainers, socks and gaiters. I went with the Ultimate Direction Fastpack 20l that had been good enough for Elizabet. So if it works for her then I’m sure it’ll work for me.
Today I purchased my Insurance so I know if I die it’ll all be grand.
Donegal has very sinky soft sand and dunes that are so steep it really woke my legs up to how different it is to run on. I had blanked out endless sprints over Ballykinler dunes and beaches from my Army days. I now know why.
Last week cash and I went for a toot on falcarragh beach when on holiday there and he just bounced over it. I was a mess with a red head from the heat. I sunk and found it very hard going. 8miles later it was no better.
To replenish I had a few Guinness and cash had to taste the head to ensure it was good enough.
I now know that soft sand and lots of it will be on my training menu as well as my normal stuff.
Big Paddy and I have entered the B class (up from C) on the Mourne Mountain Marathon (2day event) again this year. I’m hoping as we actually know each other this time we will have a good race. This is on 19/20 September. I’ll use my pack, shorts, t shirt, cap and socks for this race that I plan to wear in the desert. (Unless it is horrendous weather)
I will not use my trainers as my gaiters have been stitched to them.
So lots of movement on the administration side of things which makes it seem a lot more real.
I’ll try and blog a little more often now, it’s hard though as I’m not a natural writer.
Cash is so fit at the minute. He’s ‘tight as’. This makes me a proud beagle mummy.
